Design Inspo | Fawakay Villas

I have to share a few pics of where we stayed recently in Morocco, because it was gorgeous. I also posted about the souk here. Fawakay Villas is a little compound located about half an hour from central Marrakech. They have three beautiful Moroccan guest villas, and we stayed in the smallest one. Our villa’s bedroom was lovely and bright – neutral but with lots of texture, like the gorgeous Moroccan wedding blanket on the bed. River rock covered the floors…

Design Inspo | Marrakech Souk

Marrakech’s souk is a crazy place. Hundreds of little stalls and shops, and a few larger ones, packed into tiny streets, filled with thousands of beautiful things. It’s worth visiting Marrakech just for the rugs. An 8×10 Beni Ourain rug, bought from the UK, costs up to £2000. Buy directly at the market and you’re looking at about a sixth of that. I picked up two on a recent family trip, and discovered a lot of interior design inspiration on…

Mood Board | A Moody Girl Cave Design

Mood Board | A Moody Girl Cave Design

I’m digging dark, intimate spaces lately, and today’s design board is just that. This girl cave design incorporates a cocktail bar, and maintains a moody, cosy vibe with a limited colour palette of deep grey, navy blue, brass and natural materials like wood and leather. The bar stools, from Chairish, were the jumping off point for this whole design. The rich leather warms up all the grey and blue, then gold accents turn this otherwise masculine space into a cozy girl…

Mood Board | Masculine Neutral Living Room

Look, it’s a blogger mood board! Kilim pillow: check ✔Plenty of plants: check ✔Something mid-century: check ✔White walls: check ✔ I have to admit, I’m very much into the look at the heart of The White Wall Controversy, and I’ve been dying to use those chairs in a mood board for months. So here you go. #sorrynotsorry The overall look leans masculine, with a neutral colour palette and clean lines. But layers of texture and prints in varying scales keeps…

Design Inspo | One Room Challenge Room Makeovers

Design Inspo | One Room Challenge Room Makeovers

There were so many amazing room makeovers that came out of the Spring 2016 One Room Challenge. I worked on a bright, gender-neutral bedroom for my kids, but here are a few of my favourites from the other designers. Featured Designers I’ll stick with my top three of the twenty featured designers. I am head over heels for Waiting On Martha’s new team office – I love industrial spaces anyway, and this one is so wonderfully calm, warm and refined – such…

Shared Kids Room Design, Mortlake

Shared Kids Room Design, Mortlake

It’s reveal time! Over the past six weeks, I’ve been working on a gender-neutral, shared kids room, turning it into a bright, happy space for my six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter. This makeover is part of the One Room Challenge. Learn more about Emmerson & Fifteenth’s interior design services here. The Design Plan We had a small budget for this room, so I used a lot of existing pieces. The room isn’t big, but it’s lovely and light, and the perfectly…

ORC Week 5 | DIY | Homework Station & Pegboard Toy Storage

There’s only one more week till the One Room Challenge reveal! I’m giving my kids’ shared bedroom a makeover with a bright, modern design. This week, I finished tackling one of the biggest projects in the kids’ room: a DIY pegboard toy storage wall and a small-space homework station. If you remember the floor plan, you’ll also remember that the room isn’t terribly large. But, once I’d planned out the space, it became clear that there was this big blank…

ORC Week 4 | Fixing & Organising the Kids Room

Two things happened. One: I tidied (more on that in a min). And two: the sodding bed broke. You know those two beds that I just finished upholstering last week? Yeah, one of those. So yes, we are in week four of the One Room Challenge, and I am giving my kids a bright bedroom makeover. When Things Go Wrong I mentioned that I didn’t recommend the bed frames I used because the wood was very soft. One of them…

ORC Week 3 | DIY | Upholstered Beds

We’re in week three of the One Room Challenge, and I have finally finished the DIY upholstered kids’ beds that I started working on months ago. This is not my first rodeo with upholstering beds – I hacked an Ikea one here too. These are a little more technical with the addition of nail head trim, but still a straightforward DIY. I spent a while searching for cheap bed frames that had straight lines and no footboard. I don’t recommend…
