I’ve been consulting on the interior design of a large residential renovation project for a lovely family in East Sheen for the last couple of years. Before the project began, they had a small, out of date extension holding a kitchen and dining area that didn’t suit the scale of the rest of the house. They replaced it with a much bigger one, which now holds a spacious kitchen and dining room, with a cosy living area, as well as a pantry, utility room and guest bathroom. I’ll share the other spaces as we go, but today we’re starting the monochrome guest bathroom design.
The Brief
The bathroom layout had already been designed as part of the extension plans, by Tim Brennan Architects. I came in to specify fixtures and finishes. Although we kept the colour scheme neutral, the clients wanted a wow factor, and a blend of luxury and industrial vibes.
Monochrome Bathroom Mood Board
We chose a mixture of show-stopping, higher end pieces, like the stunning sink from London Basin Co and the handmade cement floor tiles from Bert & May, combined with mid-range fixtures and more affordable wall tile.
Monochrome Bathroom Interior Design Reveal, East Sheen
I love how this space turned out, and I would not be at all mad if it was my own bathroom!
We went with an under-lit floating vanity to maximize the visual space in this small bathroom, topped with a statement basin.
Patterned floor tile visually grounds the space and adds interest, and is perfectly complimented by a simple white subway tile on the walls.
I love the warmth that brass or brushed gold fixtures can bring to a bathroom, especially when the rest of the space is fairly neutral, and especially paired with industrial features like the faux-Crittall shower screen/door, which was a more affordable alternative to the real thing.
The walls are actually grey (Worsted by Farrow and Ball), although the wall lights give it a pink glow. It’s a lovely warm colour with enough depth to create a cosy vibe.
We kept the styling simple and clean to let the fixtures and fittings shine.
