I have to admit, I’m very much into the look at the heart of The White Wall Controversy, and I’ve been dying to use those chairs in a mood board for months. So here you go. #sorrynotsorry
The overall look leans masculine, with a neutral colour palette and clean lines. But layers of texture and prints in varying scales keeps it feeling comfy and warm.
Masculine Neutral Living Room: US Version
Yes, I’ve done a US and a UK version. I’m still more familiar with product sources Stateside, since I relocated to London relatively recently, so we’re starting there.
1. Kilim Pillow – Etsy – $29 // Pom-Pom Pillow – The Citizenry – $165
2. Removable Wallpaper – Kate Zaremba on Etsy – from $273
3. Vintage Mirror – Chairish – $395
4. Basket – Abode Living – $325
5. Leather Sofa – West Elm – $2400
6. Bookcase – West Elm – $160
7. Chairs – The Citizenry – $825 each
8. Jute Rug – Overstock – $330 // Turkish Rug – Target – $1100
9. Stool – Ikea- $100
10. Ottoman – Pottery Barn – $420
11. Similar Hanging Planter – Revisions Design on Etsy – $50
I’ve added prices and tot up what sort of budget you’d be looking at for a living room like this. If you used the wallpaper on a feature wall measuring 12 ft x 9 ft, it would be about $500, which would bring the total in at about $7400 (including plants).
Masculine Neutral Living Room: UK Version
I am perpetually miffed about the lack of good, affordable home stores in the UK – I miss Target! The Brits are getting better, but we’ve still got a way to go. Maybe there are hidden gems I haven’t discovered yet?
In the meantime, I did find some solid alternatives for this living room, although the price point is higher. Quite a few bits are actually available here too (thank you Etsy & West Elm)… They’re just not so easy on the wallet.
1. Kilim Pillow – Etsy – £21 // Woven Pillow – M&S – £20
2. Removable Wallpaper – Kate Zaremba on Etsy – from £370
3. Hexagonal Mirrors – Pacific Lifestyle – £43 each
4. Basket – Abode Living – £22
5. Leather Sofa – West Elm – £2300
6. Bookcase – West Elm – £200
7. Chairs – Made In Design – £250 each
8. Jute Rug – The Rug Seller – £369 // Turkish Rug – Rug Store Online – £1000
9. Stool – Ikea – £60
10. Ottoman – Paolo Moschino For Nicholas Haslam – £1000
11. Similar Hanging Planter – Cats Ceramics on Etsy – £30
I couldn’t find chairs that totally measured up to the the leather string ones, but I do think the rattan ones I found are pretty killer in their own right. I spotted the ottoman in person at Chelsea Design Centre – heftier price tag for sure, but it was gorgeous.
The total for the UK version of this masculine living space comes to about £7000 (including plants). At current exchange rates, that’s about $10,200. Not that I’m bitter, of course.
Awesome design boards Lizzie!! I love neutral design too. And I checked out your link to the white wall controversy…very interesting!
